Croatian Premiere of Murina To Open the 68th Pula Film Festival at the Arena

The Croatian premiere of Murina, the debut feature film by Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović, starring Gracija Filipović, Leon Lučev, Danica Ćurčić, and Cliff Curtis, will open the 68th Pula Film Festival at the Arena. The Festival will run from 17 to 24 July 2021.

Murina is a family psychological drama that takes place over four days on a Croatian island and is a sequel of sorts of the award-winning short film Into the Blue. The filming took place on the islands of Hvar, Kornati, and Koločep.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to open the Festival with a new Croatian film that will have its world premiere shortly before, at Cannes Film Festival. The film by talented director Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović will definitely provide added value to our Festival in this difficult year, and will delight the audience at Pula, as well as other films, hopefully”, said Pavo Marinković, Pula Film Festival artistic director.

It is interesting that after Cannes Film Festival, where Murina will have its world premiere, Pula Film Festival will be its first stop. The film will compete in the Croatian Programme, and a five-member jury made up renowned film artists will be presenting the awards.

The Croatian Programme jury is presided by Academy Award-winning writer/director Paweł Pawlikowski, who is joined by Zrinka Cvitešić, one of the best and most awarded Croatian theatre and film actresses with a successful international career, Mimi Plauché, artistic director of the Chicago International Film Festival, Danilo Šerbedžija, Croatian film director and last year’s winner at Pula Film Festival, and Mirko Pivčević, world-class Croatian cinematographer who has won multiple Golden Arenas and is undoubtedly one of the foremost names of Croatian cinematography.
